Frederick Lyman

Frederick Lyman has been a licensed real estate professional specializing in significant period properties for over twenty years. He graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College, and subsequently received an MA from Harvard University in land use and cultural resource planning. In 1979, Frederick established American Landmarks to provide specialized brokerage and preservation-based consulting services for historically and architecturally significant properties.
Frederick is considered an authority on tax-advantaged restoration, establishing and administering Federal and local historic districts, individual and district nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and estate and investment planning for real estate portfolios and family trusts. Through American Landmarks, he pioneered specialized the targeted marketing of historic and period properties for which the firm is widely known.
Former Executive Director of North Carolina's Historic Salisbury Foundation, Frederick has also served as Vice Chair, Overseers for Strawbery Banke Museum of Portsmouth (NH), on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's legislative task force, as president of historical societies in Winchester, MA and Washington, ME. He was also formerly Chair of the Arlington (MA) Historic District Commissions and a member of the Winchester, MA Zoning Board of Appeals. He currently serves as chairman on the Winchester Historical Commission. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Harvard's Graduate School of Design and as a jurist for Boston University's Preservation Studies Program.
Among American Landmarks clients are the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (SPNEA), for whom he has marketed historic house museums in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and the Cape Ann Historical Association, for whom he developed preservation covenants and a marketing strategy for the landmark White-Ellery House in Gloucester. Frederick is an active member of the National and Massachusetts Associations of Realtors.
